Ira R. Herr Athletic Hall of Fame
A pioneer of the Blue Jay men’s cross country program, Bernard A. Thome '59 ran during the 1957 and 1958 seasons, compiling five wins and five runner-up finishes.
Thome won four races during the 1957 season and was part of Elizabethtown’s
first-ever winning season in 1958 when the team went 6-2 under coach Ira R. Herr. He was a member of the second and third teams the College fielded in its cross country history.
Thome, from Mount Joy, Pa., was also a member of the Varsity E club, an honorary society for athletes who hold varsity letters to enhance the sports program of the College.
