A MAC golf individual title winner (1995), Smith earned spots on the 1995 MAC All-Conference first team and the 1996 MAC All-Conference third team. In the 1995 MAC Championship, he took first with a 232 across three rounds. In the 1996 MAC Championship, Smith placed third by shooting a 232 across three rounds. Playing primarily at No.1 singles and doubles, Smith held an overall singles record of 8-18 and a doubles record of 8-12.
