Blue Jays #TakeBackThompson for Dig Pink match Wednesday

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College volleyball will #TakeBackThompson Wednesday evening when it hosts Dickinson in its annual Dig Pink match at 7 p.m. The contest marks the Blue Jays' return to Thompson Gymnasium following a floor replacement project that began in August.

A brand new, vibrant maple Aacer ScissorLoc™ DC floor awaits the volleyball team, which will break in the gym this afternoon during practice. The competition center court, which features a completely new graphic design, and two bracketing auxiliary courts were all replaced with the high-performance Aacer floor.

Elizabethtown partnered with West Chester-based Miller Flooring on the project. Miller Flooring has installed floors for numerous colleges and high schools in the region, including the United States Naval Academy, Villanova, Lehigh, York College, Millersville University, the University of Delaware, Lincoln University, Gettysburg College and Penn State. The Thompson Gymnasium surface is identical to the flooring systems Miller installed at Penn State's Rec Hall and Gettysburg College's Bream Gymnasium.

The College also used Miller Flooring to install a new Mondo surface at its outdoor track & field facility this summer.

Thompson Gymnasium housed its original floor from its opening in 1969 up until this project. The original surface was refinished multiple times during its lifespan and had one sanding maintenance left before replacement. That replacement process was expedited when the floor suffered water damage during a summer roofing project.

The new court will benefit current and future students for years to come. "The investment in a new floor for Thompson Gymnasium demonstrates Elizabethtown's continued commitment to all of our students and to high quality athletic and fitness programs," said Dean of Students Marianne Calenda.

Admission to tomorrow evening's volleyball match against Dickinson is FREE. There will be basket raffles and a serving game between the second and third sets with all proceeds going to breast cancer research. Donations will also be accepted.

Elizabethtown volleyball will also play its Senior Day tri-match against Alvernia (10 a.m.) and SUNY Cortland (2 p.m.) at Thompson on Saturday. Men's and women's basketball will return to the floor to resume their preseason practices within the next few days.
