ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team took set one to extras winning 30-28 before Messiah gained momentum to reverse sweep the Blue Jays, 3-2.
Etown snapped Messiah's 16-set win streak before the Falcons took the overall 3-2 win.
Zoey Henning grabbed her first career double-double tallying a career-high 25 assists and 14 digs.
Lucy Stanek also recorded a double-double of 18 kills and 16 digs. The Blue Jays tallied 13 aces and 12 total blocks
Set scores were 30-28, 25-23, 21-25, 16-25, 9-15
Etown came out to a 12-7 lead in set one following a
Bailey McFeaters kill. Two aces from Henning but the Jays up, 16-14. The two teams traded runs as Messiah would take a 21-20 lead after rattling off four straight.
Kinsey Reuwer smacked down a kill to tie the set 25-25 to force extra points. Trading points through the end the Blue Jays came out on top, 30-28.
Set two started in a back-n-forth fashion as Etown held a slight lead.
Tori Obarow sandwiched two kills in a Blue Jay block to jump ahead, 15-12. After taking a 19-15 lead, the Falcons recorded four in a row to tie up the set, 19-19. Kills from McFeaters,
Alexa Adamek, and Stanek ended the set, 25-23.
Etown kept up their momentum midway through the third set as they led 19-16. Two Falcon errors kept the Blue Jays up with a 21-20 lead. Messiah closed out the set with the final five points to win, 25-21. After set three, Etown struggled to keep up with Messiah as they fell behind early. The Falcons doubled their lead, 18-9 and from there the Blue Jays couldn't catch up and ultimately fell, 25-16.
The Blue Jays grabbed the first three points with help from a Henning ace. An ace from
Claire Erdman then put Etown ahead, 6-2. Following a Messiah timeout, the Falcons rattled off the next seven points to take a 9-6 lead. Kills from Reuwer, Stanek, and Obarow ended the points for Etown as they fell, 15-9.
Etown will host Penn St.-Berks in a doubleheader this Saturday at 11 am.
