ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball swept Penn St.-Berks not once but twice on Saturday inside Thompson Gymnasium.
In the first match the team hit a season-high .389 and 14 aces!
Zoey Henning tallied 8 of 14 aces in the first match and recorded a double-double of 25 assists and 10 digs in the second match!
GAME 1: 25-20, 25-13, 25-13
Etown struggled to get going in the first set of the day against Penn St.-Berks. The Lions jumped out to an 11-1 lead before tacking on three more in a row to lead 14-3. The Blue Jays clawed their way back as they went on a 13-1 run to take a 23-18 lead. On the run, Henning recorded six straight aces to get the Jays back on track.
Lucy Stanek and
Alexa Adamek put down the final two kills to grab the 25-20 win.
Set two saw the two teams trade points to start. Two back-to-back kills from Stanek put Etown ahead, 12-7. After tallying six points in a row, Etown had doubled their lead, 18-8. From there the Lions couldn't make the comeback as the Blue Jays won, 25-13. Etown pulled out to a 7-1 lead to start the third set. Two Blue Jay kills sandwiched an ace from
Kinsey Reuwer to extend the team's lead to 12-6. Berks came back within one of Etown before the Jays rattled off the next four in a row. Kills from
Sierra Plummer, Stanek, and
Aubrey Sullivan ended the set in Etown's favor, 25-13.
GAME 2: 25-21, 26-24, 25-15
In the second match of the day the first two sets were close, but the Blue Jays prevailed in both sets. To start off the first set, Etown led 6-5. After some back-n-forth a 6-1 run put the Blue Jays up 16-14. Two Lion errors just left the Blue Jays up by one before Berks took a 20-19 lead. Etown managed to rally and record the final five points to win, 25-21. The majority of the second set was tight as Etown led, 12-9 after kills from
Bailey McFeaters and
Tori Obarow. Adamek kills sandwiched Lion's errors to put the team up, 15-10. Penn St.-Berks once again closed the gap as they trailed by just one at 18-17. Tied at 23-23 a kill from Reuwer and an ace from
Bailey Doherty earned the Blue Jays extra point, 26-24 win.
Etown was firing on all cylinders in the final set as they came out to a 15-5 lead following four straight points. The Lions cut Etown's lead in half but there was no stopping the Blue Jays as they went on to win, 25-15.
Etown travels to Haverford on Wednesday, September 23 at 7 pm.
