ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—In a competitive day for the Elizabethtown women's volleyball team the Blue Jays split with visitors Marymount (Va.) and Rowan. The Blue Jays first defeated Marymount, 3-1 before falling, 0-3 to Rowan.
GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, MARYMOUNT 1 (25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13)
Etown jumped out to a 13-4 lead to begin set one, setting the tone for the match. The Saints came back within three points but the Blue Jays kept pulling away. Kills from
Bailey McFeaters and
Lucy Stanek brought the score to 18-13. On a 5-1 run, Marymount came back within one but Etown pulled away again and won the first set, 25-22.
Marymount started off with the lead in set two before Etown tied it up at 7-7. After some back-n-forth a 6-1 run from the Jays put them on top, 18-14.
Nikki Klages and
Addy Reed each tallied two aces on the run. The Saints once again came within one before the Blue Jays rattled off the final four points to win, 25-21. Set three saw the two teams trade points to start before Marymount took over. The Saints grabbed a 15-8 lead and never looked back as they won, 25-20.
The Blue Jays fought back in the final set as they started off with a 9-2 lead. Several Saints errors then put Etown ahead, 15-5. Kills from McFeaters and
Tori Obarow extended the teams lead to 19-9. McFeaters and
Marah Glenn smacked down kills for Etown to win, 25-13.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 0, ROWAN 3 (21-25, 17-25, 20-25)
To start off the first set with Rowan the teams traded points keeping it a tight set through the end. Behind by just one point, Rowan was able to grab the final three points of the set to win, 25-21. Set two saw the Profs start off with an 8-5 lead after rattling off four in a row. Kills from
Kinsey Reuwer and McFeaters tied up the set at 8-8. After some back-n-forth, a 6-1 run by the Profs put them ahead, 18-15. Etown earned two more points off of Prof errors before Rowan took the final four points to win, 25-17.
In set three, Rowan picked up an early 5-0 lead. Several kills from McFeaters and a few from Glenn and Obarow put Etown up, 14-10.
Alexa Adamek and Reuwer put down kills to extend the Jays lead to 18-15. Rowan gained momentum tying up the set at 18-18 before they rattled off the final six points to win, 25-20.
Etown hits the road to face Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday, September 29.
