Jays finish fourth at Shippensburg meet

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College men's cross country began its 2015 season at the Galen E. Piper Invitational Friday night, hosted by Shippensburg University. Of the ten teams in attendance, the Blue Jays took fourth with 133 points. Zach Trama was the top finisher for E-town.

Trama, expected to be the Jays' leader, did so Friday with a 21st-place finish on the Raiders' 6,000-meter course. The senior crossed in 20:14, two seconds before teammate Matt Shenk, who took 22nd in 20:16.

Ryan Conway was just off that pace, clocking in at 20:22 to take 25th. Adam Harriger was the fourth Blue Jay runner in the top 30 at 30th, running 20:35. Senior Sam Cooper rounded out Elizabethtown's scoring, coming in 45th at 20:55.

There were a total of 121 competitors in the field for Friday night's race. Shippensburg alum's Sean Stetler and Stephen Schelander went one-two. Stetler's winning time was 19:14, while Schelander crossed a second later at 19:15.

The men's cross country team will get to enjoy its own course when it hosts the Blue Jay Alumni Challenge once again on Saturday, September 12.
