Men's XC nearly perfect in winning second consecutive title

KING'S POINT, N.Y. — The Elizabethtown College men's cross country team nearly ran a flawless race at the 2015 Landmark Conference Championship meet Saturday morning on Long Island. E-town won its second consecutive conference title with a meet-low 16 points, one away from the perfect score. Zach Trama won the individual championship and earned Performer of the Year honors as a result. The Blue Jays took the top four spots.

Injuries hurt Trama in 2014 and he was able to leg out an 11th-place performance last season, but 2015 was a different story. Trama took home his first individual title of his career, finishing just ahead of senior teammate Matt Shenk. Trama crossed in 26:43.77 with Shenk .02 behind at 26:43.79.

Fellow seniors Ryan Conway and Sam Cooper had their best conference performances of their careers, taking third and fourth, respectively. Conway's final time was 26:57.37 and Cooper's was 27:02.36. The duo were 13.6 seconds and 18.6 seconds behind Trama's top time.

Adam Harriger was a point-scorer for the Jays for the first time in his career, taking sixth in 27:20.50. Keegan McDonough was the sixth different Blue Jay in the top ten and all six runners earned First Team All-Landmark honors.

Coach Brian Falk was also named the Landmark Coach of the Year for the second straight year.

Elizabethtown finished 58 points ahead of second-place Susquehanna (74). Merchant Marine took third with 87 points.

The men's cross country team will compete at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional on Saturday, November 14 at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa.
