Seniors pace men's XC to third-place finish at Rowan

SEWELL, N.J. — As the season draws on, the Elizabethtown College men's cross country team has run better and better with each meet. Saturday was no different as the Blue Jays placed third in the team standings at the Inter-Regional Border Battle hosted by Rowan. Seeing many familiar faces from the Atlantic and Mideast, E-town finished with 132 points to place as a top-three team.

The senior-laden Jays were led by the upperclassmen. The trio of Zach Trama, Matt Shenk, and Adam Harriger have been a formidable threesome for Elizabethtown in 2015.

Trama and Shenk were both in the top ten, with Trama placing sixth and Shenk finishing tenth. Trama cracked the 25-minute barrier for the first time in his career at the 8k distance, running 24:59.44, one of six runners to do so. Shenk, averaging 5:02.6 miles, finished in 25:03.90, also a PR.

Harriger, the third Blue Jay runner to finish, dipped below the 26-minute mark for the first time in his career on his way to 33rd in 25:34.46.

Ryan Conway and Sam Cooper, also seniors, have been reliable runners for the Blue Jays, and were again so at Rowan. Conway took 41st in 25:44.69 and Cooper was 44th in 25:49.21. All five runners were finished for ECXC within 1:09 of the top finisher Charlie Marquardt (Haverford).

Tyler Ronayne was the top finisher for Elizabethtown in the men's open race.

E-town finished ahead of several nationally-ranked teams, including SUNY Geneseo, Johns Hopkins, and Rowan. The Jays were third behind Haverford and TCNJ.

The men's cross country team will compete at the LVC Last Chance meet on Friday, Oct. 23, the final race before the Landmark Conference Championships the following Saturday.
