CASTILE, N.Y. — The Elizabethtown College men's cross country team, fresh off a weekend with no meet, ran strong at the Geneseo Invitational Saturday morning. The Blue Jays finished fifth overall with 168 points as each of the five point-scorers ran 8k personal records.
Zach Trama was the top individual finisher for E-town, taking 13th.
Elizabethtown, the fifth-place team at Dickinson's meet two weeks ago, placed its first five runners inside the top 60 and had seven of the top 70 runners at the meet. There were 289 competing in the race.
Trama cruised the 8,000-meter course in 25:28.5, topping his 8k PR at last year's Division III Mideast Regional meet of 25:35. He was 13th overall, but scored 12 for the Jays.
Dan Gresh nearly ran a whole half-minute faster than his previous best, crossing in 25:35.8 to take 25th overall and grab 23 points. Trama and Gresh both finished in under 26 minutes, the only two E-town runners to do so.
Sam Cooper was the 51st runner to cross the finish line and did so in 26:14.2. Seven seconds passed before
Ryan Conway (55th overall) came through. The junior was the fourth Jays' runner to finish. His final time was 26:21.7, just over a minute faster than his time at Dickinson two weeks ago.
Jon Anderson placed 56th, behind his teammate Conway, in 26:23.3. In his first 8k since the 2013 regional meet, Anderson dropped almost a minute and a half off his previous best time at that distance.
Keegan McDonough and
Andrew Lesko were 57th and 69th, respectively, to give E-town those seven runners inside the top 70. McDonough posted another 8k PR this season, finishing in 26:24.0. Lesko clocked in at 26:38.3, well over a minute faster than his previous best.
Geneseo won its own meet, taking first of the 21 teams with 41 points.
The men's cross country team will next compete at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, October 18.
