TOWSON, Md. — Dan Gresh of the men's cross country team was honored Thursday as Elizabethtown College's first Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete. Gresh won the 2014 Landmark Championship race, was an all-region finisher and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships.
The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. Gresh, a mechanical engineering major from Sewell, New Jersey, was tabbed as the most deserving senior based on the accomplishments he compiled during a career that included three years in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) and the 2014 season in the Landmark.
Last month Gresh won the Landmark Championship, helping Elizabethtown claim its first Landmark title in its first try. He was named Landmark Performer of the Year and All-Landmark First Team. Gresh went on to finish 18th at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships Nov. 15, earning all-region status.
Gresh's regional finish was high enough to qualify him as an individual for the NCAA Championship race in Mason, Ohio, Nov. 22. The three-time all-conference runner placed 217th in his debut at the national championships.
Prior to joining the Landmark, Gresh was a two-time All-MAC selection as the Blue Jays won MAC Championships in 2011 and 2012.
Academically, Gresh has earned a 3.73 cumulative grade point average while working towards a degree in mechanical engineering with a minor in mathematics. He was a three-time Academic Honor Roll selection between the MAC and the Landmark and will be recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as an All-Academic honoree later this academic year.
Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of conference officers, athletics directors, and sports information directors.
