Women's tennis wins third in a row

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Elizabethtown feasted on last-place Susquehanna, Saturday, cruising to an 8-1 Landmark Conference road victory.

Amber Burd and Laura Gribble got the Blue Jays off on the right foot, claiming third doubles, 8-2, over Eliza Griffin and Cassey Fox.

The River Hawks (6-7, 0-3 Landmark) won their only match at second doubles, but Elizabethtown's No. 1 team of Taylor Helsel and Madison McCall negated Susquehanna's point with a hard-fought 8-5 win over Alyssa Fleischman and Abigail Ransom.

From there, Elizabethtown (5-4, 2-1) faced little resistance in winning its third straight match. The Blue and Gray swept all six singles matches, each in straight sets.

McCall defeated Linsey Sipple 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2. No. 3 Lenea Riehl followed closely with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Megan Rudloff and Helsel topped Fleischman 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1.

Burd ran her singles record to 5-3 on the season by blanking Fox 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Meghan Chemidlin collected her team-leading 12th win (12-1) and ninth in a row 6-2, 6-1 over Griffin at No. 4.

Gribble completed the singles sweep for E-town with matching 6-2 set victories over Amy Jennings at No. 6.

With Saturday's win, Elizabethtown pulled into a second-place tie in the conference standings with Catholic, a 5-4 loser to surprise Landmark leader, Drew. The Blue Jays are back on the road Sunday to face Juniata at 1 p.m., in a rematch of last year's Landmark championship match.
