SCRANTON, Pa. -- Elizabethtown College women's tennis got back on track in Landmark Conference play, going on the road to defeat Scranton 6-3 Sunday for its first league win of the season.

The two-time defending Landmark champion Blue Jays were upset by Drew last weekend, ending a 47-match conference regular season winning streak, but got redemption against the Royals (2-6, 0-1 Landmark).

Elizabethtown jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead by capturing all three doubles matches.

Sophomores Amber Burd and Laura Gribble secured E-town's (4-4, 1-1) first point with an 8-3 win over Katherine Loughlin and Emily Kelly at third doubles.

The senior tandem of Taylor Helsel and Madison McCall, playing together for the first time this season after going 15-4 in 2015-16, held off Julia Frattaroli and Nastashia DeNunzio, 8-6, at No. 1.

Freshman Lenea Riehl and sophomore Meghan Chemidlin also paired up for the first time with positive results. Riehl and Chemidlin collected an 8-5 victory over Emily Machado and Emilia Jakubek at No. 2.

Helsel put the Jays a point from the win with an epic rally in the third set of her first singles match against Frattaroli. She won the first set 6-3, before Frattaroli swept the second 6-0 and took a commanding 5-1 lead in the third. Helsel stormed back to tie the set, 5-5, and eventually pulled out the win in a tiebreaker 7-6 (8).

Scranton got within 4-2 as Machado won No. 3 singles and DeNunzio No. 2 singles, but Burd took care of Elyse Smilnak 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 and Chemidlin improved to 11-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Jakubek at No. 4 to clinch the match for Elizabethtown.

The Blue Jays have a light start to the week before finishing with a flurry of three matches in three days. The first of those is a non-conference makeup at Muhlenberg Friday at 4 p.m.
