McCall earns win No. 100 in Blue Jays' victory at LVC

Results

ANNVILLE, Pa. -- Senior Madison McCall entered exclusive company Sunday by becoming the 11th player in Elizabethtown College women's tennis history to reach 100 career combined victories as the Blue Jays cruised to an 8-1 win at Lebanon Valley.

McCall knocked off a pair of wins against the Dutchmen, first with Meghan Chemidlin at second doubles, 8-2, over Rebecca Pierpont and Elise Hanks-Witaszek, and then at second singles, 6-3, 6-4, over Pierpont.

The three-time All-Landmark Conference pick (twice in singles, once in doubles) has split her victories evenly between singles and doubles, winning 50 times in each discipline and doing so in just 140 matches (50-25 singles, 50-15 doubles). McCall currently ranks eighth all-time in career singles victories at E-town and is the first player to reach the century mark in combined victories since Christine Evangelista and Kaitlyn Pellegrino in 2015.

Elizabethtown (3-4) swept doubles and had the match wrapped up with early singles wins from McCall and No. 1 Taylor Helsel, who outlasted Maria Scacchitti 7-5, 6-3.

Though McCall and Chemidlin were in full control of their No. 2 doubles match, the Blue Jays needed extra games to pull out No. 1 and No. 3.

Helsel and Lenea Riehl held off Scacchitti and Melanie Haas, 9-7, at No. 1, with sophomores Amber Burd and Laura Gribble winning by the same score over LVC's Alyssa Potosnak and Megan Williams at No. 3.

Burd and Gribble were both victorious in singles play, too.

Burd captured a 6-4, 7-5 win against Elizabeth Drda at fifth singles and Gribble dropped Williams 6-4, 6-4 at sixth singles.

Chemidlin swept Potosnak 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, making her the first E-town player to achieve double-figure singles victories on the season at 10-1.

Lebanon Valley (5-3) got its point from Haas at third singles when she rallied to top Riehl 5-7, 6-1, 13-11 in a super tiebreaker.

The Blue Jays will square off against their second straight MAC Commonwealth opponent Tuesday, when Messiah visits the Alumni Courts for a 4 p.m. start.
