Waso earns third all-region selection

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elizabethtown College junior forward Gilbert Waso received his third career all-region honor Wednesday, landing on the United Soccer Coaches All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team.

Waso, a two-time All-America selection from the organization formerly known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), fought a lingering injury throughout the past season, but still managed to lead Elizabethtown in scoring for the third consecutive season.

Waso scored 11 goals and assisted on three for 25 points in 18 games (16 starts). He topped the Landmark Conference with six game-winning goals while ranking second in goals and shots (65) and third in points. The 2015 and 2016 Landmark Offensive Player of the Year was voted to the all-conference First Team for a third time by the league's coaches.

Waso will go into his senior season rapidly approaching 100 career points. He's already up to 87 in 58 career games with 35 goals and 17 helpers. The last Blue Jay to hit the century mark for points in a career was Chris Helsel (101) back in 1998.

With all Waso has accomplished in three seasons at E-town, his first career hat trick surprisingly came this past season when he had three goals and an assist for a career-high seven points in a 7-1 romp over Morrisville State to open the season Sept. 1. Waso went on to record a pair of four-game point streaks and scored both goals in a 2-1 double overtime win at Penn State Harrisburg on Sept. 16 for his only other multi-goal performance.

Waso was the only Elizabethtown player selected to this year's United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams after the Jays went 10-7-2 and reached the Landmark championship game for a third straight season. He was joined on the Second Team by fellow Landmark players GK Jason Adamo (Drew), D Niko Cserhat (Drew), F Andy Imoh (Drew) and F Connor Casey (Scranton). Drew forward Aidan Cserhat, the 2017 Landmark Offensive Player of the Year, was named to the First Team to give the conference six all-region selections.
