Waso named season's first Landmark Offensive Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. -- Gilbert Waso's five-point weekend led Elizabethtown to victories over Hobart and The College of New Jersey. Monday, he was selected as the 2016 season's first Landmark Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week.

The sophomore got off to a roaring start, scoring in the 69th minute of Friday evening's 3-0 win over Hobart, a 13-win team from a year ago. Waso, who was honored as the Landmark Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year in 2015, followed up his premiere performance with a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over TCNJ Saturday.

Waso was named MVP of the Brothers Pizza Blue Jay/Red Devil Classic for the second year in a row after E-town's win Saturday in the de facto championship game. He led all players with five shots against Hobart and tacked on three more against TCNJ.

Waso is making a habit of coming out of the gates strong. Despite all his conference and national (NSCAA DIII All-America First Team) accolades as a freshman, he had just one conference weekly award. Ironically, it was on Sept. 8, 2015, the first week the conference named award winners last season.

Elizabethtown will return to the pitch Wednesday evening at 7 against Wilkes.
