Blue Jays beat Scranton to claim No. 1 seed in Landmark Champs

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College women's tennis completed its seventh straight unbeaten conference regular season and locked up the No. 1 seed in next week's Landmark Conference Championships with a 6-3 victory over Scranton at the Alumni Courts Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Jays (13-3, 7-0 Landmark) have won 47 straight conference matches in a row dating back to 2008-09, when they were still a member of the Commonwealth Conference.

Lauren Berry and Sam Procak blanked the Royals' (12-6, 6-1) Emily Machado and Emilia Jakubek, 8-0, at second doubles to get the Jays off to a quick start. The win was Berry and Procak's ninth in a row together, and they are now 10-1 on the year.

Madison McCall and Taylor Helsel earned their team-leading 12th win of the spring at first doubles, 8-3, over Emily Walsh and Julia Frattaroli.

Elizabethtown closed in on securing the top seed in the Landmark Conference Championships for the second time with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

Berry defeated Machado by matching 6-2, 6-2 scores at third singles, while McCall rallied from 5-2 down for a 7-6 (4) first set tiebreaker win and then put away Frattaroli 6-2.

Freshman Meghan Chemidlin clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Courtney Barron at fifth singles. The Stewartsville, N.J., native is now a gaudy 17-3 on the season and increased her winning streak to 10 matches.

Procak came from a set down to top Jakubek 3-6, 6-1, 11-9 in a super tiebreaker at fourth singles.

Elizabethtown will open the Landmark Conference Championships by hosting a semifinal match Tuesday. Time and opponent are to be determined.
