Berry, Blue Jays shut out Susquehanna on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown women's tennis honored Lauren Berry on Senior Day by shutting out Susquehanna 9-0 in a Landmark Conference match at the Alumni Courts Sunday afternoon.

Berry was heavily involved in the decision, posting an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles with the help of sophomore Sam Procak, and capturing her fourth win at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, over Megan Rudloff.

E-town improved to 27-6 all-time against the Crusaders. The victory lifted the Blue Jays to 6-3 (2-0 Landmark) on the season, while Susquehanna dropped to 5-7 (1-2).

The Jays were rarely tested Sunday, in what was to be the back half of a conference weekend with Juniata and the Crusaders. Saturday's match against Juniata was postponed due to snow, however, with a new date yet to be announced.

After Berry and Procak rolled over Linsey Sipple and Abagail Ransom at No. 2 doubles, Madison McCall and Taylor Helsel secured their team-leading seventh win, 8-3, at No. 1 against Alyssa Fleischman and Allison Lobell.

Freshmen Meghan Chemidlin and Laura Gribble finished the doubles sweep in a tiebreaker 9-8 (0). Though the Crusaders' threes forced the tiebreaker, it was Chemidlin and Gribble winning all seven points in the extra session. It was just the fourth match this season the two have played together, as they improved to 2-2.

Berry, Chemidlin, Helsel and Procak all extended their singles winning streaks to three Sunday.

McCall followed Berry's win at No. 3, with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Fleischman at first singles to clinch the match for the Blue and Gray.

Helsel got past Sipple 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 in a super tiebreaker, Procak blanked Eliza Griffin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and Chemidlin triumphed 6-0, 6-1 over Lobell at No. 5.

Freshman Amber Burd completed the whitewash by holding off Julia Spear 7-6 (8), 6-2 at sixth singles.

The Blue Jays, ranked 15th in the Oracle/ITA Atlantic South Region rankings, will aim to extend their Landmark regular season winning streak to 10 matches when they visit Goucher Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
