Women's tennis cruises to win over LVC

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Playing its first match in nearly a month, Elizabethtown showed no rust in disposing of Lebanon Valley, 8-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Alumni Courts.

It had been 25 days since the Blue Jays last took the court in a match setting March 4 against Tiffin in Hilton Head Island, S.C., but you wouldn't have known it by their performance against the former Commonwealth Conference rival Dutchmen.

Lauren Berry and Sam Procak gave up but one game in a convincing 8-1 win over Ariana Freeman and Alyssa Potosnak at No. 2 doubles to put the Jays (3-2) in front early.

Freshmen Meghan Chemidlin and Amber Burd overwhelmed LVC's No. 3 pair of Megan Williams and Allison Weidman, 8-2, and Nos. 1 Madison McCall and Taylor Helsel closed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory over Rebecca Pierpont and Marla Scacchitti.

Elizabethtown carried its dominance over to singles, winning 5-of-6 matches, all in straight sets. The Blue Jays faced Lebanon Valley (3-6) in seven straight CC championship matches from 2008-14, winning six of them.

Tuesday's triumph was E-town's 11th straight over the Dutchmen dating back to the 2009-10 season.

McCall whitewashed Pierpoint at first singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Berry, playing her first matches of the year, led start-to-finish against Freeman for a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3.

With the match locked away, Procak defeated Edwards 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. Chemidlin followed with her team-leading seventh singles win of the year, 6-3, 6-1 against Potosnak and Helsel held off Scacchitti 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2.

Elizabeth Drda kept the visitors from being shutout with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6.

The Blue Jays, ranked 18th in the ITA Atlantic South Region, will look to start a winning streak tomorrow afternoon when they host Randolph-Macon at 3:30 p.m.
