Mount Union defeats W. Tennis 6-3

Results

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Mount Union jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles and doubled up Elizabethtown, 6-3, Wednesday in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Madison McCall and Taylor Helsel overwhelmed Mount Union's Gretchen Groves and Megan Reichert, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles, but the Purple Raiders would answer back with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

Helsel would tie the match at two for Elizabethtown (1-1) by defeating Reichert in a super tiebreaker at No. 2 singles 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

Mount Union (6-2) followed with three straight victories to secure a win over the ITA Atlantic South Region's 18th-ranked team.

Meghan Chemidlin rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 win over Christina Nelson at No. 4 singles.

The Blue Jays face Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday at 4:30 p.m., before wrapping up their annual Spring Break trip against Tiffin Friday.
