Four Jays recognized as NFCA Scholar Athletes

2015-16 Easton/NFCA Division III Scholar Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2015-16 Division III Scholar Athletes for the 2015-16 school year. Four members of the Elizabethtown College softball team were named to the list; Kirstin Blass, Nicole Fullerton, Marissa Kramer, and Maeve McGill.

The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions. NCAA Division I, with 1,240 honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher, while 1,124 in Division III earned recognition, followed by 963 Division II student-athletes. High School weighted and High School unweighted posted 618 and 512 honorees apiece. NAIA amassed 384 recipients and Junior College totaled 311.

Blass, a captain and starting infielder, saw her offensive numbers spike in her junior campaign. She enjoyed new career-highs in average, runs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, walks, and on-base percentage.

Fullerton played in 23 games and made 14 starts, along with three starts on the mound and 11 appearances overall in the circle. In limited at-bats, the freshman hit .231 with nine hits, three being doubles. Pitched a total of 22 innings with a 3.18 ERA and 11 strikeouts.

Kramer was immediately inserted into the starting lineup in right field. She took to it with little problem to start her collegiate career, hitting safely in four of her first six games. Knocked the first homer of her career at Scranton in the second game of a doubleheader. Kramer was one of six Blue Jays with 20 or more hits on the season.

McGill manned the opposite corner of the outfield, and like her teammate Blass, had career-highs offensively. The senior, who also started and played in 35 games, hit .239 in 67 at-bats with 16 hits, nine runs scored, and eight RBIs. McGill also recorded 39 putouts.
