ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team swept Lycoming on Saturday, but the Blue Jays' season came to an end as the outside help they needed in order to grab the No. 5 seed in the Landmark postseason didn't happen.
Lauren Leshak and
Julia Bergen each earned the wins for Etown.
GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 4, LYCOMING 1
Lauren Leshak cruised through her seven innings, only allowing three hits and one unearned run.
Elizabethtown took a 1-0 lead on
Emily Bittner's sac fly to right field to score
Maddie Reever. Reever was 2-for-3 with two doubles in game one.
Jess Dunn provided some breathing room in the fourth with a three-run home run to left field.
Leshak struck out four for the complete game win.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 5, LYCOMING 2
The Warriors posted two runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. That held through the top of the fourth, but the Jays battled back.
Lily Baldwin sent a single up the middle to score two runs as
Sarah Birner and
Brooke Huczko scored on the play.
Bergen took over in the second inning for Etown and settled things down. The first-year hurler did not a allow a run as she provided her offense opportunity to put the team in the lead and they did just that in the sixth.
Lexi O'Brien launched a triple to center field as Birner scored her second run of the game and
Morgan Carr also came across home plate to make it 4-2.
Hannah Long singled to bring home O'Brien as consecutive hits made it a 5-2 game.
Bergen put the side down in order in the seventh to close out the game. She threw 5.1 innings for her fourth win of the season.
Birner went 3-for-3 in the game with two runs scored. Carr was 2-for-2 while Baldwin and O'Brien each had two RBIs.
Elizabethtown finished the season at 22-18, their most wins since 2012 and first winning season since 2013.
