Waso returns to NSCAA All-America First Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Gilbert Waso punctuated a sensational sophomore season with his second straight NSCAA All-America First Team honor, the organization announced ahead of this weekend's NCAA Division III Final Four.

Waso is the only repeat pick to the NSCAA All-America First Team from 2015 and becomes just the second player in Elizabethtown's storied 75-season history to earn All-America First Team honors twice in a career, joining Robbie Martin (1989 and 1990).

Waso led the Landmark Conference and ranked 30th in Division III with 15 goals. He also topped the conference and placed 31st nationally with a career-high 36 points and fired a league-high 66 shots. Waso's six assists were second most in the Landmark behind teammate and all-region honoree Sam Feehrer, while his two game-winning goals ranked tied for third.

Waso, who now calls Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, home, has accumulated 62 points in 40 games, an average of 1.55 per game. He's 13 goals from joining the Blue Jays' career top 10 list and just 38 points shy of becoming the 12th player in program history to register 100 in a career.

Amidst the sweltering heat of late summer, Waso started the 2016 season on fire. He scored five goals in the Jays' first four games, adding an assist for nine points.

Waso suffered through an uncharacteristic five-game drought, held without a point from Sept. 14-Oct. 1, but answered with an offensive outburst not seen within the program in some time.

Over the next seven October games, Waso ripped off nine goals and five assists for 23 points. He extended his point-scoring streak to eight games with the game-winning goal as Elizabethtown defeated Susquehanna, 3-1, in a Landmark semifinal game, Nov. 2.
