Women's XC dominate Landmark Championships, win third straight title

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's cross country team's dynasty of domination continued for another year as the Blue Jays were first out of eight teams Saturday at the Landmark Conference Championships. E-town extended its conference title streak to ten in a row and third straight in the Landmark. They also combined with the men to sweep the conference team titles for the third consecutive season.

The domination in Saturday's championship race was such that only four runners not wearing Elizabethtown jerseys finished in the top 12. E-town packed the all-conference teams with eight runners, beginning with Casey Quinto, who took third in a new personal best 6k time of 21:53.86. The senior had run 21:54.71 last October at Rowan's Inter-Regional Border Battle. Quinto became the first Blue Jay to earn three All-Landmark First Team honors with her run.

A pair of Blue Jays came in behind Quinto; Brenna McNamee and Kelsey Brady. Both juniors ran personal bests on Moravian's 6,000-meter course. McNamee registered her fifth top ten finish of the season with a fourth-place run in 22:09.48. Brady dropped her time over half a minute and took fifth in 22:14.94.

Maria Anderson, like McNamee and Brady, earned All-Landmark First Team honors with her seventh-place run, the second consecutive Landmark Championship meet the junior has finished in that spot. Anderson's time of 22:26.52 was also a PR.

Liz Wedekind, 13th a season ago at the 2015 meet, jumped into the top ten in 2016 for the best championship finish of her career. Wedekind was ninth in 22:58.02, her first race under 23 minutes for E-town. Brianna Earnshaw was just off her pace, taking tenth in 23:00.36.

Colleen Kernan was the seventh Elizabethtown runner to cross, placing 11th in 23:08.12. Alexis Groce had her best 6k performance of the season and took 12th in 23:17.87. Earnshaw, Kernan, and Groce were all Second Team performers.

Moravian's Meg Brockett was the individual champion in 21:10.55. The Greyhounds were second with 43 points to Elizabethtown's meet-low 28.

The women's cross country team will rest up before competing in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional on Saturday, November 12.
