Volleyball dominant in pair of wins, captures Lycoming Invitational

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Elizabethtown left little doubt which team was the best on the floor at this weekend's Lycoming Invitational. The Blue Jays used a total team effort to 3-0 victories over Pitt-Bradford and Penn College Saturday, capturing the team title in the process.

Kristina Smith's double-double of 11 kills and 21 digs paved the way for the Blue Jays' in a 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 win over the Pitt-Bradford (3-4).

Mackenzie Garner also had 11 kills and Janae Moran nine. Steph High registered her third straight 30-plus assist match, while Shannon Deck and Juliana Mowen reached double figures in the digs department, finishing with 20 and 10, respectively.

E-town finished with a .221 hitting percentage and 39 kills, to the Panthers' .209 and 30 kills. The Blue Jays topped out in the third set, where they hit .333 with 16 kills on 36 attempts.

The Blue and Gray were in cruise control from the opening serve against Penn College (1-10).

Freshmen Sarah Schneider and Anna Simpson were problems for the Wildcats, Schneider going for a match-high 11 kills and Simpson seven aces in her debut.

Elizabethtown's (7-2) contributions were widespread, as it won the first two sets by 25-17 scores and then held Penn College to just eight points in the third. It was the fewest points the Blue Jays have allowed in a set since taking the first set over Misericordia, 25-8, Oct. 5, 2013.

Victoria Leidy and Emily Sexton both totaled five kills and two aces. Brooke Daugherty had six assists and two aces, and Morgan Reiss came up with a pair of blocks.

Kristin Halliday stepped in and delivered 21 assists, with Deck (13) and McNaul (11) recording double-digit digs. Chelsea Gallagher finished with seven digs.

Elizabethtown continues non-conference play Tuesday evening at York (Pa.). Match time is 7 p.m.
