Weather can't keep WTEN from 40th straight conference win

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – New conference, same results. Elizabethtown battled snow flurries and unseasonably cold temperatures to win its 40th consecutive conference match, 6-0, at Susquehanna Thursday afternoon.

Having not lost a league match in more than five seasons as a member of the Commonwealth Conference, the Blue Jays (14-3, 7-0 Landmark) had to reestablish themselves in their new home, and did so, completing an unbeaten 7-0 conference schedule with their victory over the Crusaders.

E-town and Susquehanna (7-6, 1-6 Landmark) decided to forego the three doubles matches with conditions unfavorable for tennis. A stiff breeze and temps in the low 40's encouraged the teams to move play along.

Christine Evangelista obliged by sweeping Brielle Ferlauto 6-0, 6-0 at first singles, and Lauren Berry dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Claire Smith at No. 3.

The Blue Jays went ahead 3-0 with Kaitlyn Pellegrino's 6-2, 6-3 win over Alyssa Fleischman at second singles. Elizabethtown won all six singles matches in straight sets.

Taylor Helsel secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kelly Furlong at No. 5, Sam Procak stayed perfect with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 and Madison McCall completed E-town's 14th win of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Linsey Sipple at No. 4.

Elizabethtown will conclude the regular season with a home exhibition match against Harford Community College Saturday. The match counts for Harford, but NCAA rules state that, "for NCAA team-championship selection purposes, competition is countable only when the teams played are varsity intercollegiate teams of four-year, degree-granting institutions that conduct a majority of their competition in that team sport against varsity intercollegiate teams of United States four-year, degree-granting institutions. Competition against service teams, professional teams, semiprofessional teams, amateur teams, two-year colleges and club teams shall be excluded."

Match time against Harford is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
