Blue Jays handle Messiah

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown women's tennis won for the eighth time in its last nine tries, sweeping Messiah, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Alumni Courts.

For the third time in the last four matches, the Blue Jays (13-3) were unanamous victors.

Madison McCall and Sam Procak took that a step further, shutting out Meagan Scala and Julianne Diebert, 8-0, and third doubles.

Elizabethtown's No. 2's Lauren Berry and Taylor Helsel pushed their team best winning streak to four matches, 8-4, against Sydney Schandel and Carly Dove, while reigning Landmark Athlete of the Week Christine Evangelista and Kaitlyn Pellegrino held on against Kelly Hopkins and Jennifer Kitlan at No. 1 for an 8-5 win.

Regular No. 1 Evangelista and No. 2 Pellegrino got the rest of the day off, as their teammates moved up and into the lineup.

Berry collected her first win at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0, against Hopkins and sophomore Brooke Hillriegel was unbeaten in two sets of a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Diebert at sixth singles.

Sarah Calabro won her 40th career singles match by defeating Schandel 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.

Procak, who has been used primarily just in doubles this season, improved to 5-0 in singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Scala. Helsel downed Carly Dove 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 and McCall completed the sweep in a super tiebreaker 7-6 (6), 4-6, 10-4 at No. 2.

E-town's win over the Falcons (8-3) was its 19th all-time in 27 meetings.

The Blue Jays, ranked 19th in the ITA Atlantic South Region, will go for their sixth straight unbeaten conference regular season Thursday when they face Susquehanna in Selinsgrove at 4 p.m.
