Results

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown women's tennis is headed to the postseason for the 11th straight season. The Blue Jays swept Goucher, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Alumni Courts and got some help from Juniata, which beat Susquehanna to eliminate the Crusaders from contention.

Lauren Berry and Taylor Helsel set the tone early at No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 victory over Kelsey Turner and Emily Ruff, and the remaining Blue Jay (10-3, 4-0 Landmark) doubles teams followed suit.

Madison McCall and Sam Procak picked up an 8-2 decision at No. 3, matching them win-for-win with Berry/Helsel, as both pairings won their ninth matches together this season.

Elizabethtown, ranked 19th in the ITA Atlantic South Region, finished the doubles whitewash with an 8-3 win from the senior combo of Christine Evangelista and Kaitlyn Pellegrino at No. 1. Pellegrino's doubles victory was her 60th, one behind Alice Yu for third all-time. Evangelista tied Allison Burkhardt for fifth with her 58th.

Pellegrino pushed the Jays' lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Turner at second singles and McCall decided the outcome with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Alice Goldstein-Plesser in the No. 4 match.

All six singles matches were decided in straight sets as the Blue Jays stayed perfect in five meetings with the Gophers (5-7, 1-4 Landmark), who were also eliminated from postseason consideration with the loss.

Evangelista added to her combined win total with a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Alex Walsh at No. 1 singles. The senior from Harrisburg tied Yu and Kristy Trimbey for fourth with the 112th triumph of her career.

Helsel beat Leigh Oehrig 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6, Berry defeated Emily Ruff 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 and Sarah Calabro held off Goldstein-Plesser 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 to complete the shutout.

E-town's win, its 10th of the season, gives the program 11 straight double-digit win seasons and 18 in its 55-year history. The Blue Jays joined the Landmark Conference this season after winning the last five Commonwealth Conference championships.

The women's tennis team is one of two unbeatens remaining in the Landmark along with Scranton. The Blue Jays and Royals will play for first place in Scranton Friday at 2:30 p.m.
