WTEN moves to 3-0 in the Landmark with victory at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Elizabethtown women's tennis won its fourth straight match and remained unbeaten in Landmark Conference play with a 6-3 victory at Catholic Saturday.

Lauren Berry and Taylor Helsel won a swing match at No. 2 doubles wit the teams tied 1-1, holding off Eliana Martinez and Jenna Gietl 9-8 (6) in the tiebreaker.

The Blue Jays (9-2, 3-0 Landmark) took an early lead when Madison McCall and Sam Procak won all but one game at No. 3 doubles to defeat Maria Flores and Sarah MacLean, 8-1.

Catholic's Liz Harvey and Laura Torsiello captured an 8-4 win over E-town's Christine Evangelista and Kaitlyn Pellegrino to avoid being blanked in doubles.

Harvey and Torsiello both won singles matches and were the first two off the court, putting the Cardinals (11-5, 3-3 Landmark) ahead of the 19th-ranked team in the ITA Atlantic South Region, 3-2.

Berry put the visitors back on even footing with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Martinez at No. 3 and No. 5 Sarah Calabro was a 6-3, 6-2 straight set winner over Gietl for a 4-3 lead.

Elizabethtown won the final four singles matches to extend its winning streak to four matches.

McCall and Helsel each went three sets to get their victories. McCall's 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Emma Needham at No. 4 was her team-leading 13th of the season. Helsel, meanwhile, reached double figures with her 10th win, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 in the super tiebreaker over Flores.

Sunday will provide another measuring stick for the women's tennis team as it heads to Salisbury, ranked eighth in the region, for a 2 p.m. first serve.
