Women's tennis shuts out York (Pa.)

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Elizabethtown women's tennis saw its entire singles lineup earn straight sets victories in Monday 9-0 win over York (Pa.) in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Consecutive 8-2 victories from all three doubles teams put the Blue Jays (2-1) in control early.

Christine Evangelista and Kaitlyn Pellegrino won their 54th match together all-time, defeating the Spartans' top pair of Darian Naill and Carter Vaughn. Pellegrino improved to 56-28 in her doubles career, putting her right behind Jess Russell, Kristy Trimbey and Emma Smith, who all have 57, for sixth in program history.

Evangelista has won every doubles match in her E-town career with Pellegrino and Monday's triumph moved her into a 10th place tie with Stacy Shapiro.

Lauren Berry and Taylor Helsel were winners at No. 2, and Madison McCall teamed with Sam Procak at No. 3 for the doubles sweep in Procak's debut.

Evangelista earned combined win No. 105 when she beat Emily Price 6-1, 6-1 at first singles and is now one win away from tying Allison Burkhardt for eighth on the school's career wins list.

Pellegrino continued to close in on 100 combined victories with her 96th after a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 against Naill.

Berry defeated Mckenzie Krout 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and McCall won 6-1, 6-0 over Emily Skutnik.

York's (3-2) Vaughn pushed Helsel, but the Blue Jay sophomore prevailed 7-5, 7-6 (4) at No. 4 and Procak added her first career singles win 6-0, 6-1 over Megan Jones at No. 6.

Monday marked the first time the Jays and Spartans had faced off since 2002. Elizabethtown improved to 15-1 against York with the victory. The ladies play St. John Fisher tomorrow at noon.
