Volleyball wins in return to Thompson Gym

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College volleyball won its long-awaited return to Thompson Gymnasium, taking down Dickinson 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21) Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

The Blue Jays spent more than two months away from their home gym while a new floor was installed in the wake of a summer roofing project that resulted in water damage to the original surface inside Thompson.

Appropriately on "Dig Pink" night, senior Steph High set a season-high with 23 digs. She also set up 40 of Elizabethtown's (17-13) 50 kills for her seventh double-double of 2015. Mackenzie Garner and Sarah Schneider were beneficiaries more often than not, Garner finishing with a match-high 18 kills and Schneider 13.

A mix of veterans and newcomers, this year's Blue Jay squad features seven seniors, no juniors and 11 underclassmen. Garner has been providing offense all season, topping double digits in kills for the 11th time in her last 14 matches and moving to within seven of 300 for the season.

Schneider has come on strong of late. She connected for a career-high 14 kills last Saturday at Lebanon Valley and has reached double figures five times.

Freshman Janae Moran added nine kills and 13 digs, with Victoria Leidy contributing five and three blocks (one solo). Shannon Deck and Megan McNaul joined High and Moran with double-digit digs, Deck totaling 11 and McNaul 10.

Elizabethtown hit .178 for the match (50 kills-22 errors-157 attempts), ahead of Dickinson's .094 (40-26-149) and overcame 11 aces from the visiting Red Devils (8-16).

Norma Jean Park was the lone Red Devil to eclipse double digits in kills with 13. Libero Arielle Misrok stepped up with a match-high 30 digs as Dickinson held a slight 80-76 advantage.

The Blue Jays will honor their seniors prior to Saturday's Halloween Tri-Match opener against Alvernia. First serve is set for 10 a.m. Elizabethtown will then conclude its season with a 2 p.m. match against SUNY Cortland.
