Blue Jays blanked by Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – Elizabethtown ran into one of the hottest teams in the country Tuesday night, as it was swept by Cabrini 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-15) at the Nerney Field House.

Two early kills from Kelci Scannapieco and Brittianni Phillips pushed the Blue Jays out in front 7-6 in the first, but the Cavaliers (22-5) came back with consecutive aces by Amy Guarino, 15 kills and a .242 hitting percentage to win the first set.

Elizabethtown (11-19) got as close as 21-18 following a Jen Grenauer attacking error, but Cassidy Koenig and Anne-Marie Jones combined for three kills as Cabrini reeled off the final four points of the opening set.

Despite a team-high nine kills in the second, the visitors were never able to attack with consistent success, as their .071 success rate in the first set would be a high point.

Cabrini, which recorded its program-best 16th straight victory, responded to a Steph High kill at the start of the second with six straight points and never looked back.

E-town would show some fight early in the third, picking up seven of the first 11 points to lead 7-4 on a kill by Samantha Hicks, but then gave up a 13-3 run that included 10 kills. Guarino led the charge with three kills during the run.

Phillips was Elizabethtown's top performer with six kills, a .214 hitting percentage (6-3-14) and two block assists. Scannapieco had five kills on 23 attempts, while adding a solo block on the defensive side of the net.

Megan McNaul and Taylor Beck totaled four kills each, with Jen Cook digging out 12 Cavalier attacks.

Cabrini collected at least 15 kills in all three sets (15-15-16) and hit consistently in the mid .200s to finish at .250 as a team (46-18-112). Anne-Marie Jones was the only player to reach double digits in kills, as she had 10 to compliment 12 digs. Chelsea Jones added nine kills, seven digs and three blocks (two solo).

Elizabethtown wraps up the 2014 season and honors its seniors Saturday with a tri-match against Lycoming at Wilkes. First serve is at 12 p.m.
