Open ResultsPRINCETON, N.J. — Amanda Kerno was the top finisher for the Elizabethtown College women's cross country team at the 2014 Princeton Invitational held at the West Windsor Fields on Saturday. As a unit, the Blue Jays were 19th out of 35 teams in the championship race with 562 points. E-town also had runners in the open race, where the Jays were 23rd out of 29 with 624 points.
Among a highly competitive field that included plenty of Division I talent, Kerno helped Elizabethtown finish as the top Division III school in the championship race. Kerno navigated the 6,000-meter course in 22:45, finishing just ahead of Marisa Ruskan of Richmond and Kirstin Sandreuter of Cornell.
Amelia Tearnan and
Megan Tursi, respectively were the next two Blue Jays to cross the line. Tearnan was 117th and Tursi was 119th; both finishing at 23:26. Nicole Demars of Hartford also finished at the same time.
Lydia Dearie came in two seconds later at 23:28, placing 126th overall.
Brianna Earnshaw was the final point scorer for E-town, taking 182nd. There were 287 runners competing in the championship race.
In the women's open race, the Blue Jays also fielded a team.
Amy Gessler was the top finisher in the open race, which was made up of 302 runners. Gessler was 113th overall, but scored 90 team points for EC.
Ashley Underkofler and
Kelsey Brady finished only one second apart, but were separated by four spots as five runners came in at the same time. Underkofler was 132nd in 25:30 while Brady was 136th in 25:31.
Rounding out the top five for Elizabethtown in the open race were
Samantha Zarzaca and
Gabrielle Yankelevich. Zarzaca clocked in at 27:16 and Yankelevich finished in 27:46.
The women's cross country team has one final meet before the Landmark Conference Championships. E-town will compete in the Lebanon Valley JV Meet on Friday, October 24 at 4:30 p.m.
