Women's tennis overpowers Harford C.C. in exhibition

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Elizabethtown had no trouble with Harford Community College in an exhibition match Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Courts, routing the Owls 9-0.

Noecker teamed with Madison Pipkin at No. 1 doubles to pick up an 8-3 victory over Sonora Ijdo and Erika Richardson.

Sophomores Christine Evangelista and Kaitlyn Pellegrino were 8-2 winners over the Owls' (1-4) Alex Cox and Emilie Keith, at No. 2.

Elizabethtown completed the doubles sweep with Adriana Scotto and Nicole Snitzer winning by an 8-0 count at flight three.

No Blue Jay lost more than two games in any set when the teams moved to singles matches. Pipkin scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ijdo at No. 1 singles. Noecker defeated Cox 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.

Scotto (No. 3), Evangelista (No. 4), Pellegrino (No. 5) and Sarah Calabro (No. 6) were all winners as well. Calabro won all 12 games (6-0, 6-0) against Harford's Shelby Mink.

Individual and team win-loss records counted for Harford C.C. in this match, but not for Elizabethtown, because of NCAA bylaw 31.3.4.1.1 (Countable Competition), which states, "For NCAA team-championship selection purposes, competition is countable only when the teams played are varsity intercollegiate teams of four-year, degree-granting institutions that conduct a majority of their competition in that team sport against varsity intercollegiate teams (see Constitution 3.2.4.4) of United States four-year, degree-granting institutions. Competition against service teams, professional teams, semiprofessional teams, amateur teams, two-year colleges and club teams shall be excluded."

Harford is a two-year college located in Bel Air, Md.

The Jays' attention now turns towards Commonwealth Conference play, as they are scheduled to face Lycoming in Williamsport Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
