Junior Julian Meaney became the second Meaney in as many seasons to reach All-America status at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships Friday and Saturday.
Meaney, wrestling at 184 pounds, won his first-round match over Mitch Hagen of St. John's (Minn.) to ensure he was one of the weight class' top eight. He then pinned Roland Dunlap of Wisconsin-Whitewater to reach the semifinals.
Though his title run ended against eventual weight class champ Josef Rau of Elmhurst, Meaney bounced back with another victory over nationally-ranked Hagen Saturday to reach the third-place match. Medical issues kept Meaney from going up against Messiah's Josh Thomson, but the fourth-place finish was Elizabethtown's best at this year's championships.
Julian follows his brother, Bill Meaney, who was an All-American at 197 pounds at the 2012 championships.
