Three-time NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & FIeld Championships qualifier Matt Rever placed 12th in the 800-meter run Friday at the George Gauthier Track on the compus of Ohio Wesleyan University.
A 2012 All-American in the 800, Rever returned to the national stage after missing almost the entire 2013 season. He made a late push at the Swarthmore-hosted Tuppeny Twilight Last Chance Meet two weeks ago to get himself into the NCAA field with a 1:50.97. Friday evening he completed his two lap race in 1:52.44, placing him 12th in preliminaries, just four spots shy of qualifying for Saturday afternoon's final. Rever, of Timonium, Md., ran in the third of three heats, which turned out to be the highest performing heat. Three of the eight finals qualifiers came from the third heat, as did five of the top 12 times in the preliminaries.
Rever also finished 12th in his national outdoor debut in 2011, before taking home a career-best fifth in 2012.
