Junior Woodie Hermann finished runner-up finish at 174 pounds Sunday in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, earning his first trip to nationals.

Hermann grad got off to a good start with an 8-3 decision over Ben Lebrun of Baldwin Wallace, before upsetting D3Wrestle.com No. 10 Jordan Powell (Thiel), 11-6 in the quarterfinals. Even Tyler Rhoads of York, wrestling in his home gymnasium, couldn't get in Hermann's way, falling 10-7 in the semifinals.

Only nationally ranked Ricardo Plummer kept Hermann from giving Elizabethtown its second regional champ in as many years. Plummer, ranked sixth by the NWCA and fifth by D3wrestle.com, needed a takedown in overtime to claim a 3-1 sudden victory. Still, it couldn't take away the luster from Hermann's day, as he was locked into a spot at nationals before the final by way of his top three spot in the weight class.
