ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa—Elizabethtown field hockey stayed in the win column after their home opener on Wolf Field Friday evening. Four Jays scored to combine for the teams 4-0 win against Simmons. Lily DeBlasio and Megan Doll teamed up for the team's shutout victory.
The Blue Jays got right to work in the first minute of the game as they took possession and carried the ball into the circle, earning a penalty stroke. Sophomore, Sophie Myers stepped up and sent a low left ball into the corner, making it 1-0 just 0:46 seconds into the game. Etown continued to keep possession on the offensive side, denying Simmons from taking a shot for the rest of the first quarter.
It didn't take long for Etown to find the back of the goal again when freshman, Carly Schumacher drove a ball from the top of the circle. Standing on pads waiting to tap the ball in was senior, Hannah Long to make the score 2-0 before halftime.
Schumacher continued her strong performance in the third quarter, scoring her first career goal at the 38:04 mark to extend the Jays' lead to 3-0 after previously recording an assist.
Hailey Meyer finished the scoring off for the Blue Jays as she tallied her first goal of the season. Junior, Meadow Keet found Meyer at the center circle and delivered a pass, giving the junior an opportunity to beat the goalkeeper and seal the victory for Etown.
Etown outshot Simmons 28-2 while holding a 17-1 edge in corners.
The Blue Jays will be back in action tomorrow, September 5th against #16 Franklin & Marshall in a road game.
