ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Freshman Caly Hartman gets her first goal of the season as the Elizabethtown field hockey team adds another game to the win column. The Blue Jays come back in dominating fashion after being down 1-0 at the end of the first quarter to win the game 3-1. Carly Schumacher and Sara Watson added goals of their own in the home game win.
Bridgewater (Va.) got the scoring started first as they got their lone goal at the 10:12 mark. After that goal, Blue Jays defense limited the Eagles to only four more shots in the game. In the second quarter, Meadow Keet dribbled the ball down the sideline and sent a ball into center circle with Schumacher waiting. Schumacher reversed the shot in beginning the scoring streak for the Blue Jays.
Junior Kayle Noel found Watson for the second goal as she was on post ready to sweep the shot in. Hartman closed out the scoring for the Blue Jays at 54:09 mark with a goal off a penalty corner. Hartman received a pass from right inside the circle and lifted it over the goalie's head, sending it into the back of the goal.
The Blue Jays offense and defense combined for this non-conference win as they outshot the Eagles 23-8 while also earning 15-5 in corners. Hannah Long led the team in shots with six on the day; Ava Wolfe and Schumacher both added four.
Etown will host Susquehanna on Saturday, October 3rd at 1pm as they resume conference play on Wolf Field.
