LANCASTER, Pa.— The Elizabethtown baseball team earned wins over Wilkes and Drew, Friday to advance on in the Landmark Conference Tournament.
GAME 1: WILKES 6, ELIZABETHTOWN 12
Jake Ruple went 3-4 with three runs, a RBI, and a home run.
Mason Woolwine went 2-5 with a run, and three RBI.
Nick Fiorini went 1-4 with three RBI and a home run.
Fiorini got the Blue Jays going early on a two-run home run in the first inning. Etown added five runs on just two hits in the second to extend their lead, 7-0. With bases loaded at the end of the inning,
Parker Summers hit a two RBI double to the wall, just short of a grand slam. To start off the third, Ruple hit a single to right center and advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt.
Alex Perrin's sacrifice fly scored Ruple for Etown's eighth run.
Wilkes got on the board in the fourth as Etown continued to lead, 8-2. In the fifth,
AJ Lipscomb singled to center field and advanced off of Perrin's well-placed bunt. With the bases loaded, Woolwine knocked a double to left center to bring home two bringing the Jays lead to 10-2. Wilkes scored their third run in the fifth.
Ruple led off the ninth inning with a solo home run before Etown's final run of the game was scored on a bases loaded walk. Wilkes grabbed three more runs in the bottom of the ninth but it wasn't enough as Etown lived to see another game.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 6, DREW 2
Perrin went 3-4 with a run and a RBI.
Etown continued their hot start by putting up two runs in the first inning off a single and sacrifice fly. With the bases loaded in the third, Perrin singled to first base for the Blue Jays first of four runs in the inning. Two more runs came across on a walk and a wild pitch as Etown led, 5-0. On a ground out, Perrin scored the Jays sixth run. Drew scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth. Drew hit a solo home run in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Etown advanced on to Saturday.
Lucas Scheib grabbed the win recording four strikeouts.
Pete Omiridis earned the save recording three strikeouts.
Etown will face the loser of Susquehanna/Scranton at 2:30 pm tomorrow.
