Woolley Breaks Conference Career Hits Record as Blue Jays Fall at Catholic

WASHINGTON, DC.—Elizabethtown baseball team senior, David Woolley recorded his 239th career hit in the sixth inning to make his mark on top of the Landmark Conference career hits record book.

Catholic's solo home run in the eighth was just enough to defeat Etown, 12-11.

Mason Woolwine went 2-4 with two runs and a stolen base. Parker Summers went 2-3 with three RBI, a double, and a run. Tommy Kanakos went 1-3 with three runs, two RBIs, and a double.

Catholic took an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. In the second, Summers hit a RBI double to left center for the team's first run of the game. In the third inning, walks loaded the bases scoring a run and bringing Etown within one of the Cardinals. A Cardinal error allowed three Blue Jay runs to cross home bringing Etown out in front, 5-3.

In the bottom of the third, Catholic tied up the game with a two-run home run before retaking the lead at 6-5. Etown responded in the fourth tying the score at six. Woolwine bunted to reach first and was brought home on Nick Fiorini's single. The fifth was a quick inning on both sides before a long sixth inning for Etown.

In the sixth, Etown drove in four runs on four hits as Woolley recorded his 239th hit of his career to get the inning started. AJ Lipscomb, Kanakos, Summers recorded an RBI in the inning for three of Etown's runs in the inning. Kanakos was able to steal home for the Blue Jays 11th run of the game.  The marathon sixth inning continued as Catholic tied up the game at 11-11 scoring five runs on five hits. 

In the eighth, Catholic knocked a solo home run which ended up being the game-winning run. Catholic defeated Etown, 12-11.

Etown travels to Widener tomorrow at 3:30 pm.
