Nine Different Women’s Lacrosse Players Score in Win over Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's lacrosse team moved to 3-0 on the season as they downed Gwynedd Mercy, 25-10. Nine different Blue Jays scored at least one goal.

Hailey Meyer led the way with a career-high seven goals while adding an assist. Ella Scholes scored five goals and tallied three assists. First year Ally Breneman recorded her first career goal as she totaled four. Alyssa Golombeck tallied five assists and six draw controls.

Etown was quick to get on the board as Scholes fed Meyer her first of seven goals. Three minutes later, Breneman found Scholes for her first of five goals. A minute later, Meyer grabbed another goal on a free-position opportunity before Gwynedd Mercy tallied their first goal. Goals from Breneman, Leah Gaito, and Abby Bach finished up the quarter, 6-2.

The Griffins struck first in the second quarter before the Blue Jays added three more, extending their lead to 9-3. The two teams traded goals through the end of the quarter with Gwynedd Mercy scoring the final one of the half in the final seconds. The Griffins cut Etown's lead to 11-7 heading into halftime.

Jordyn Hironimus opened the scoring for Etown in the second half at 14:27. Two minutes later, Drew Bridges found the back of the net for her first goal of the game. The third was the Jays lowest scoring quarter with just four but they continued to hold on to the lead. Going into the final quarter, Etown led 15-9.

Bridges, Meyer, and Breneman tallied the first three goals of the fourth quarter as the team doubled their lead to 18-9. The Griffins got one back before Etown would end the game with a flurry of five goals in the final four minutes.

Etown will travel to McDaniel on Saturday to play at 12 pm.
