Baseball Splits with Scranton as Game Two Comeback wasn't Enough

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown baseball team finished off the series with conference foe, Scranton splitting with the Royals 5-1, 2-3. 

In game one vs. Scranton, senior David Woolley tied the Elizabethtown career runs record with his 165th. 

GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 5, SCRANTON 1

Woolley went 3 for 4 with a run and a RBI. Mason Woolwine went 4 for 5 with two RBIs. Logan Burns earned the win on the mound, striking out four. 

Two scoreless innings went by before Scranton was the first to score in the third inning. The Blue Jays tied up the game on Woolwine's RBI-single to right field. In the fifth, Etown added two runs on two hits to take a 3-1 lead. The Blue Jays added two more insurance runs in the eighth to secure the 5-1 win. Dylan Pope started off the inning with a double and then was brought home on Woolley's single. Woolwine hit is second RBI-single of the day as he scored Griffin Patridge

Cory Rible was efficient in the top of the ninth striking out three while giving away one walk to close out the game. 

GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 2, SCRANTON 3

Scranton scored a run in the second, fourth, and fifth innings to score their lone three runs but it was enough to defeat the Blue Jays, 3-2. In the fifth inning, Jake Ruple reached first after being hit by a pitch and then stole second. Sawyer Martin's double down the left field line brought Ruple across home. In the sixth, after Woolwine reached first via a walk, Nick Fiorini sent Woolwine home on a double to right center. Etown was able to get two on base in the eighth but they weren't able to close out the inning with a run. 

Etown will host Catholic on Tuesday at 3:30 pm
