NEWARK, NJ.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team took a set off #13 Rutgers-Newark as the Blue Jays fell, 3-1 in CVC play.

Set scores were 25-18, 19-25, 20-25, 21-25.

Braydon Ambruster recorded a double-double of 11 kills (.318) and 14 assists. Arun Gopinath totaled 10 kills while Patrick Neyer tallied 15 assists. Josh McCoy and Max Sears each recorded four block assists  and Logan Smith and Mason Boyer totaled three block assists.

Rutgers-Newark came out to an 8-4 lead in set one. After Scalet Raider errors the Blue Jays came back within one at 9-10. A 6-1 run from Etown put the Jays up, 17-14. The Blue Jays then rattled off six in a row which extended their lead by seven. Two kills from Gopinath ended the set, 25-18.

Rutgers again started off with an early lead to begin the set. Kills from Boyer and Ambruster tied up the set at 12. The two teams traded the lead, but Rutgers ended the set on a 5-1 run to win, 25-19. Set three was close to start and the Blue Jays were able to keep it that way throughout the set. After three in a row from the Scarlet Raiders, Rutgers led 17-15. The Scarlet Raiders closed out the set with a 7-2 run to win, 25-20.

In set four, the Blue Jays tied up the set early at six. After some back-n-forth the score was tied up at 16 before Rutgers rattled off five straight to take a 21-16 lead. The two teams traded points through the end of the set, but Rutgers' lead was too large for Etown as they fell, 21-25.

Etown will host Wilkes on Friday in a CVC match.
