UNION, NJ.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team faced their second ranked opponent of the week in a CVC match at Kean. The Blue Jays kept it close but ultimately fell, 3-0.
The Blue Jays held a 41-37 edge in kills and 39-34 edge in assists over the Cougars.
Arun Gopinath led the team with 11 kills (.261) and seven digs.
Patrick Neyer tallied 18 assists and eight digs while
Braydon Ambruster tallied 17 assists.
Josh McCoy totaled eight kills (.500).
Set scores were 25-18, 25-23, 25-20.
Kean jumped to a 7-3 early in set one after rattling off five points in a row. The Cougars had almost doubled their lead before Etown cut Kean's lead to just three points. McCoy and Gopinath each put down a kill, but it wasn't enough as the Cougars grabbed the final three points to win, 25-18.
Set two was close to start, a kill from McCoy and an ace from
Logan Smith tied up the set at 9-9. The two teams traded points midway through the set as Etown kept it close. Two straight kills from Gopinath and one from Smith put the Blue Jays ahead, 17-16. Kean grabbed three in a row to retake the lead. Etown fought to come back but was able to as they fell, 25-23.
Etown started with the lead to begin set three. Kean took over the lead as Smith, McCoy, and Ambruster recorded kills to come within two of the Cougars. Etown continued to trail by no more than three towards the end of the set. The Blue Jays were unable to gain enough momentum for the lead as Kean earned the final three points to win, 25-20.
Etown faces #13 Rutgers-Newark in a CVC match tomorrow at 1 pm.
