Baseball Holds Off Lycoming to Open Conference Series

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The Elizabethtown baseball team opened up Landmark Conference play at Lycoming on Saturday. The Blue Jays were able to hold off the Warriors in the ninth to earn the 7-6 win.

Jake Ruple went 3-4 with two runs. Nick Fiorini went 2-4 with three RBIs, a run, and a home run. Alex McClain went 1-4 with a run, a RBI, and a home run.

Lycoming went up, 2-0 in the first after a two-run homer. Etown came back within one in the third. Ruple led off the inning with a single followed by a Fiorini single. On a fielder's choice, Ruple scored. In the fourth inning, the Warriors extended their lead to 3-1.

David Woolley led off the sixth inning with a triple down the right field line. On a ground out to the shortstop, Woolley crossed home for the Jays second run. Alex Perrin's RBI double in the seventh inning evened the score at 3-3 before Lycoming added one in the bottom half of the inning.

Lycoming tacked on two more runs in the eighth to grab a three-run lead. McClain led off the ninth with a home run to cut the Warriors lead. With two on base, Fiorini hit a three-run homer to secure Etown's 7-6 win.

Maximus Polun earned the win while Paul Kvech earned the save on the mound.

Etown will finish up the series at Lycoming starting tomorrow at 12 pm.
