ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team got back to their winning ways, Saturday as they defeated Roanoke, 3-2.
Logan Smith led with a double-double of 19 kills and 13 digs.
Patrick Neyer also recorded a double-double of 11 digs and a career-high 52 assists.
Arun Gopinath recorded a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs.
Braydon Ambruster tallied 18 kills, nine digs, and six blocks.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-22, 29-31, 25-18, 15-11.
Roanoke challenged Etown early in the first set as they led 7-4. A 7-1 from the Blue Jays lifted the team up, 14-11. After some back and forth, kills from Neyer, Gopinath and
Max Sears extended the Jays lead to 22-17. The Maroons came within two but Etown was able to finish for the 25-21 win.
Etown jumped out 6-1 to start set two. A few Roanoke errors brought Etown to a 13-9 lead. The two traded points before a 3-0 from the Maroons left them trailing by just one to Etown. Two Roanoke errors ended the set in Etown's favor, 25-22.
The Blue Jays again started strong in set three, but Roanoke was again able to keep things close. Etown grabbed a six-point lead late in the set, but the Maroons fought back. A 5-1 run from Roanoke put Etown ahead just by one point. The Blue Jays made it to set-point before Roanoke forced extras ultimately taking the set, 31-29. After a third set loss, Etown struggled early in the fourth. Roanoke led by five midway through the set and the Blue Jays couldn't recover as they fell, 18-25.
Etown found momentum again in the fifth set coming out to a 5-2 lead after
Bailey Durofchalk's ace. Kills from Sears, Smith and Ambruster extended Etown's lead, 9-6. Roanoke again chipped away at the Blue Jays lead as they came within one. After trading points until the end Etown came out on top, 15-11.
Etown will host Lancaster Bible this Thursday.
