ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's volleyball staved off a Lancaster Bible comeback after leading Thursday night's and beating the Chargers in five sets.
Patrick Neyer had a match-high 48 assists while
Braydon Ambruster had 17 kills and
Logan Smith added 14 for the Blue Jays.
Elizabethtown took the first two sets by identical scores of 25-21 to grab a 2-0 lead in the match.
Lancaster Bible slipped past the Jays in the third set in a close one, 25-23, to get a set back.
The Chargers evened up the non-conference matchup in Thompson at 2-2 with a 25-20 fourth-set win to force that fifth set.
LBC led by as many as three a few times, but Etown didn't go away as they worked back into it. Down 13-11, kills from Ambruster and Smith made it a 13-13 game.
Lancaster Bible had match point at 14-13 after Carson Hoover's kill, but Neyer set up Ambruster for another kill to make it 14-14, then Neyer and
Max Sears combined for the block to give match point advantage to the Blue Jays.
EC used another combined block to get the win, this time from Smith and Sears to give the Jays a 16-14 fifth-set victory.
Elizabethtown will host Messiah on Tuesday, February 17, at 7 p.m.
