ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team fought hard against no.8 Messiah Tuesday evening but ultimately fell, 0-3. Set scores were 22-25, 25-27, 24-26.
Max Sears led the team with seven kills (.385) and four total blocks.
Arun Gopinath totaled five kills while
Patrick Neyer tallied 19 assists.
The first set was tight early, but Etown started off with the 10-8 lead. From there the set would tie seven times before the Falcons gained momentum. A 4-1 run led by Messiah's Alex Kagoro put the Falcons ahead, 22-19.
Logan Smith and Neyer put down kills but it wasn't enough as the Falcons won, 25-22.
The second set saw a similar beginning until the Blue Jays pulled away midway through the set. Sears, Smith, and
Braydon Ambruster tallied kills putting the Jays up, 14-11. The team then rattled off four straight to extend their lead to 20-14. Two Falcon errors brought Etown within two of set-point. The Blue Jays were not able to hold on as Messiah went on a 6-0 run to tie up the set 23-23 and then win, 27-25.
Etown opened up the third set with a 6-3 lead. Messiah tied up the set at 9-9 and then from there the two teams would trade points. Three straight points from the Blue Jays put the team in front, 18-14. Sears,
Mason Boyer, and Gopinath contributed kills through the end of the set, but it wasn't enough as Messiah went on a 5-1 run to win, 26-24.
Etown will open up CVC play this Saturday to face #9 Southern Virginia.
