OWINGS MILLS, Md.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team had their seven game win-streak snapped by Stevenson on Thursday as the Mustangs defeated the Blue Jays, 3-1.
Patrick Neyer recorded a double-double of 31 assists and 14 digs.
Braydon Ambruster totaled 10 kills while
Arun Gopinath totaled nine kills.
Set scores were 20-25, 25-17, 14-25, 21-25.
Set one went point for point as the match was tied ten times before Stevenson started to pull away. After the final tie at 14-14, a three point run from Stevenson put the team ahead, 17-14. An Ambruster kill and
Logan Smith ace brought Etown back within one of the Mustangs. Stevenson rattled off four straight points which helped them secure the 25-20 win.
Etown picked up momentum in set two as they won their lone set, 25-17. Etown jumped out to a 6-3 lead. Kills from Smith, Ambruster, and
Max Sears doubled the Blue Jays lead to 11-5. The Blue Jays continued to fire on all cylinders as they took a 20-12 lead over Stevenson. The Mustangs were unable to recover as Etown won the set, 25-17.
The third set was close to start but Stevenson managed to maintain an early 13-8 lead. A 4-0 run from the Mustangs left Etown trailing 20-10. Three straight from the Blue Jays wasn't enough to close the gap as Stevenson won the set, 25-14. Stevenson quickly doubled their lead to start off set four. Gopinath put down two kills to bring the score to 8-14. The Blue Jays came back within four following a kill from Sears. Etown fell, 25-21.
The Blue Jays have another tough match on deck this Saturday at home vs. Roanoke at 1 pm.
